Book types overview

Monographs:
Monographs are books prepared by one or more authors. When there is more than one author, authors write collaboratively, often leading to one coherent piece of work, which is the product of collective ideas and work. Monographs allow for an in-depth analysis of a specific topic or issue.

Edited volumes:
Edited volumes are usually organised by one editor or a group of editors. Different authors or author groups write each chapter or section. Editors can contribute to the chapters, but their central role is to solicit contributions and oversee the publication process, including the review of the chapters. Each chapter in the book should suit the scope of the book. Edited volumes can have a broad scope because of the diversity of contributions they can contain. Still, the topics covered should suit the book's aims and be contextualised with an Introduction and Conclusion.

Textbooks:
Textbooks have a didactic purpose and a clear classroom application. They are prepared for a course and also often named after a course. Textbooks contain didactic elements such as exercises, boxes and diagrams.

Conference books:
Conference books are usually prepared in connection with a conference* or event. A common feature is that they are often time-sensitive because they are published in connection with the conference.

Conference books are organised by a group of editors (often the organising committee members) and contain contributions* from a diverse group of authors who participate in the conference. Editors are responsible for gathering the contributions and overseeing the review process of the contributions (which must go through the scientific committee). Each chapter in the conference book should suit the scope of the conference theme.

* We only consider conferences (co-)organised by the Delft University of Technology.
* Please note that we only consider reviewed contributions, which are papers and extended abstracts. We do NOT publish short abstracts, posters, keynotes or presentations. For those, we recommend our repository.
* Please note that TU Delft OPEN Publishing is responsible for submitting titles for indexing.
