Author Biography

Han Ligteringen, Department of Hydraulic Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands

Han Ligteringen started his career as Associate Expert for UNDP at the Ipoh Politechnic in Malaysia. Thereafter he worked during more than 12 years at Delft Hydraulics (now Deltares) on advisory projects and research in maritime structures, density currents and port engineering and became head of the Maritime Structures department. Subsequently he combined technical and managerial responsibilities at several consulting companies. He occupied the chair of Ports and Waterways at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences of TU-Delft from 1995-2010. During this period he was responsible for the education and research within the Ports and Waterways group. He initiated and developed the Port Research Centre Rotterdam-Delft, a collaboration between TU-Delft and the Port of Rotterdam, and the Waterway Research Program with Rijkswaterstaat.
