Synopsis

In this book you will find a firm foundation of theory of physics and electronics theory, as well as practical implementations, examples and exercises. The topics start with passive components, which cannot add energy to a circuit: a resistor, a capacitor, an inductor, and the non-linear, unidirectional diode. Later topics include active components: the transistor and operational amplifier (in short: OPAMP), which do add energy, and can have an output signal larger than an input signal. The third part of this book includes more complex circuits with many components, non-ideal behavior of circuits, sensors and microcontrollers.

Author Biographies

Margreet Docter, Department of Bionanoscience, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands

Margreet Docter is a full time lecturer within nanobiology. She loves to innovate education, on course and program level and beyond. She is currently active within the projects on COMBINE (cocreation of educational materials) and IDEE-STRL  (Innovation in Delft Engineering Education, with focus on Students Taking Responsibility for their own Learning) projects. She holds a PhD in physics, and a MSc in education, and recently obtained her Senior University Teaching Qualification.

Jeroen Bastemeijer, Department of Microelectronics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics & Computer Science, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands

Jeroen Bastemeijer is a qualified educator and expert technician in the field of electronic instrumentation. He loves to share his expertise with both non-electrical and electrical engineering students. He has broad experience in sensor-oriented research, and actively contributed to many papers and publications. He holds a degree in electronics with 30+ years of experience in the field.

Both authors have been active and published in the field of electronic (instrumentation) education, and innovated educational materials, practical assignments, teaching methods, and their electronic learning platform for more than 10 years.
