The manuscript files delivered to the publisher are considered final. Changes after publication will not be accepted unless strictly necessary. If you would like to include new information that is important after publication, we may suggest a new version or new edition. E-mail TU Delft OPEN Publishing with the title of the publication, the proposed changes and the argument as to why the publication needs to be updated or changed.
A new version or new edition qualifies as substantial updates or changes, which can be new sections, figures, images, chapters, text, substantial corrections, among others.
New Version
The below applies to a new version of a publication (or Version of Record).
- The changes are not content-related, and they don’t affect the aims of the publication
- New information, several corrections or small updates to the original publication (figures, text, references, authorship changes, publication history changes, etc.)
- A new version is published with a publication notice explaining the changes made to the published record.
- The DOI stays the same (the new version is linked ), see example This applies to the following publication types: journal articles, conference books, monographs, edited books, textbooks, except interactive textbooks.
New Edition
A new edition typically includes changes, updates, and improvements to the content, structure, or presentation based on feedback, new research, novel material, or changes in the field. New editions are applicable for monographs, edited books, textbooks and conference books (books); this does not apply to journal articles or interactive textbooks.
Key reasons for releasing a new edition:
- Updating Content: Incorporating new information, research findings, or developments in the field since the previous edition was published.
- Correcting Errors: Addressing any errors, inaccuracies, or omissions identified in the previous edition.
- Improving Clarity and Accessibility: Revising the text to enhance clarity, readability, and accessibility for readers, such as reorganizing chapters, clarifying concepts, or updating examples and illustrations.
- Adding New Features: Introducing new features, supplementary materials, or interactive elements to enhance the learning experience, such as case studies, exercises, or multimedia resources.
- Reflecting Changes in Pedagogy or Research: Aligning the content with evolving teaching or research methods, educational or research standards, or pedagogical or research approaches to better meet the needs of instructors, students or researchers.
- Addressing Feedback: Incorporating feedback from readers, instructors, reviewers, or peers to improve the overall quality and effectiveness of the book.
A book may be considered for a new edition three years after publication. TU Delft OPEN Publishing will assess if a new edition is needed in consultation with authors.
Note that a new DOI and ISBN are necessary for a new edition.
